Parent Communication

Positive notes home

I believe that notes home to the parent should not always be newsletters or a note when the student hasn't finished their work or if a behavior problem arises. I am a big believer of positive parent communication goes hand in hand with a positive classroom environment. I will start the school year with a note telling the parents about a wonderful trait their student has and then send out more notes throughout the year about their progress or achievements.

Weekly newsletter

I of course will be creating a weekly newsletter and I see this as an excellent tool to create a bridge between the learning in the classroom and the learning at home. Not only can we use a newsletter for upcoming events and items needed for lessons or trips, but also a way to show the parents the techniques we are teaching the students a topic because then at home the parents can reinforce that learning. The photo attached is an example I found similar to how I would set up my newsletter.

Class Dojo

Class Dojo is similar to Facebook, but useful to the classroom because the parents can see in the moment what is going on in the classroom. I would use this as a tool too increase parent engagement. This platform even translates to any language that the family speaks at home, so all family members can feel a apart of the students education. I would love to use this to show families what the students are up to and a way for them to show off their work.
